4 Effective Ways Leadership Can Demonstrate Work/Life Balance

Did you know that your company culture is portrayed based on the behavior and actions of the people at the top and those making the rules? If you want to demonstrate better work/life balance, it’s essential to lead by example. Here are four examples of what you can do to improve the overall culture in your workplace.

Respect Your Employees’ Time

We are no longer in an age when contacting employees outside of work hours is considered acceptable. Don’t expect your team to answer emails you send after their work day is done. Even if you choose to work past 9 to 5 hours, don’t contact your team during this time, as they will believe you expect them to respond.

Take Your PTO

As a manager, it’s also vital that you take your own PTO. If you don’t, it will be assumed that your employees will be looked down upon for doing the same thing. They may feel like their slaking by not taking any time off, even though they earned that time. This is another way you should demonstrate your company culture.

Be Flexible

You also have it in your power to encourage flexibility in your employees’ work hours. You can be understanding when they need to take an hour for an appointment or leave early to attend a child’s sports event.

Set an Example in Your Home Life

If you’re a parent, use this to set an example for your team. Showing that you can be a professional and an involved parent will demonstrate how this will also be possible for your employees. Be sure to include this kind of support and flexibility for non-parents or those in other caregiving roles at home.
