A loyal team of employees can be what makes or breaks a business. But building loyalty is a two-way street; you can do plenty of things to encourage your team to experience satisfaction in their jobs and the company culture. Here are five easy ways to slowly build team loyalty.
Ensure a Good Culture Fit
Loyalty is earned, but you have to start with a good foundation. When you’re making hiring decisions, determine if the new employee is a good fit for the organization as a whole. Do they have the same shared values? Do they believe in the company’s mission? Do they offer something additional to the team?
Hire Enthusiastic Employees
Every hiring manager has come across someone who is not engaged with the job and is just looking for a paycheck. While the ability to earn a living is a critical component of employment, you also want to work with people who care about what they do and why they do it. Evaluate for positive attitudes and excitement in the work itself.
Be a Great Manager
Teams can’t be loyal if they don’t have good leadership in place. Lead by example and demonstrate what it is to be a good employee and a compassionate manager. Include your team in decision-making and listen to them when they have questions or concerns.
Offer Room For Growth
Employees who feel stagnant will be more inclined to seek opportunities elsewhere. To encourage loyalty, you also need to facilitate growth. Offer career development and upskilling opportunities. When your employees learn new skills, you can benefit from them instead of losing them to your competition.
Foster Good Work/Life Balance
It’s also critical to recognize that your employee is a complete person with a life outside the workplace. They need to feel they have time to spend with friends, family, and activities they love. Offer reasonable flexibility wherever possible and a solid PTO plan that enhances their work/life balance.
